OTHER THINGS OF INTEREST

Dear Friends February 2010

I am in Auckland International Airport awaiting my flight to Australia, anticipating the Pacific Link’s imminent arrival at the port of Newcastle. Here it will be welcomed by local dignitaries and YWAMer’s of different bases throughout Australia, and will signal the start of the 16-port YWAM Australia Ship Tour.

I cannot help but recall the last few days before the ship sailed, facing numerous challenges and circumstances that threatened to jeopardize our scheduled departure. Any vessel arriving at an Australian port is not permitted to discharge grey water (from sinks, showers, etc.) into the harbour. For the Pacific Link finding a practical solution to this did not come easy! Finally the decision was made to construct an 8 cubic metre plastic ‘holding tank’ on the aft deck, effectively allowing us to store grey and black water on board.

Fabrication for the project began in mid January, with piping to the new tanks completed just hours before we sailed on Wednesday 10th of February. Another problem we faced was obtaining entry visas for the ship’s crew. Due to changes in international port security it is has become much harder to enter Australia with crew staying on board a vessel for extended periods of time. Every avenue we tried, failed.

We found ourselves praying again (as we always do!) asking God to point us in the right direction. 12 hours before the ship sailed a solution was found, and every single crew member received their visas just 6 hours prior to the actual departure.
Just when we thought the challenges had ceased and we could sail away into the sunset, the ship’s main generator would not start. We believe God gave us the date of February 10th and we were holding to that! It was 8:30pm when they found the problem, and the hours and minutes ticked by.

Finally at about 11:45pm the generator started and our beloved ship departed the port of Tauranga just before midnight … on the 10th of February.

As I sit here and ponder these events there is only one thing that comes to mind: it is that God is Faithful. We worry and fret about things in life and we say we are surrendered to God’s ways, but in reality we still want to be in control. Moreover, He is in control!

Australia is indeed a sleeping giant and we are about to wake it by bringing the clear message of Jesus Christ to 100,000 young people. With that comes confronting the same old giants that Joshua and Caleb met when they entered the promise land.
But we know the outcome of that! Should we expect anything less?

Thank you for journeying with us! You just don’t know how we are encouraged by your prayers and support. Will you join us as we launch a new vision in Australia? Come on get your feet wet!

God’s blessing to you and your loved ones this Valentine’s season.

Vision 2010 – Marine Reach Asia Pacific

In 2007 the Board and Eldership of Marine Reach Asia Pacific received a word from the Lord that He was ready to expand our influence and release ships in the Pacific.
If we were to demonstrate generosity to others through our resources and time, we felt that this move of God would usher in a new generation of young people to join us, and see the next wave of ships serve the liquid continent and beyond.
As we were led we felt to release the Pacific Link to Australia; to train them up in how to operate ships while calling 100,000 young people to missions. For us to accomplish this, we felt the Pacific Link would undergo a three year transition process where in Marine Reach New Zealand would help mentor Marine Reach Australia. There is no success without proper succession, and our prize possession the M/V Pacific Link is the perfect tool to do this. We are committed to working alongside them to ensure their success (and ours too!)
With this transfer the Pacific Link will remain under the ownership and operation of Marine Reach New Zealand and will only be transferred completely to Marine Reach Australia by 2013. This means that a strong base of support can be established for Marine Reach Australia to facilitate ministry up into Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. Our long term hope is to launch more ships from Australia in the future.
As for Marine Reach New Zealand we have not dropped the ball! We will continue to minister into the islands and provide the much needed help they deserve. We have 6 land-based medical outreaches planned for Fiji this year, as well as others in the Philippines.
We are also actively looking for our next ship, and we shall call her the M/V Next Generation! We are following several leads and our hope is that we will take ownership of this new vessel before the end of 2010, or by early 2011.
Your support is needed now more than ever as we begin to flex our new found strength to reach the least, the last and the lost. We intend to go beyond what we have already accomplished, and to do it more effectively.
Thank you so much for helping us make God’s dream become a reality. Thank you for making us your hands and feet ... or you can also join us at one of our outreach locations and experience it for yourself! Come on, get your feet wet!
