After
eight weeks and hundreds of nautical miles at sea the M/V Pacific Link
has triumphantly returned to Tauranga, her crew safe and sound though
understandably tired.
The YWAM New Zealand Ship Tour culminated in Tauranga with a youth
rally attended by 150 young people at the local Elim Christian
Centre. It was amazing to see God moving amongst them, stirring
their hearts for Him and His mission. The Pacific Link also enjoyed
visits from local church people in Tauranga during the weekend.
It was indeed a ‘trying’ eight weeks of moving between as many ports,
reaching out to almost 15,000 young people through our tours of the
ship, Youth Connection Teams and Jump Rallies. We embarked on
this campaign with a single-minded focus to call our nation’s young
people to serve God and serve others by stepping out of their comfort
zones.
The outcomes of this campaign are a little difficult to quantify, but
we believe spiritually that thousands of seeds have been planted all
over New Zealand.
Was it worth the hundreds of man hours, the tens of thousands of
dollars and the sheer energy expended by a small group of people
committed to bringing transformation? I say “Yes, it was!”
The preservation of our nation’s young people and the social
fabric they create is of paramount importance.
You can see the weariness on the faces of our staff that have battled
so hard this year. I am very proud of them. They have
driven hundreds of kilometres by road and sailed hundreds of nautical
miles through some very rough stretches of water. But one thing
is certain - they are not devoid of hope!
This has been a challenging year for us. In spite of uncertainty
and fear, we are encouraged beyond measure knowing that the world’s
economy does not dictate the progress of the Kingdom of God. We
have seen His faithfulness and provision; we have felt His protection
and hope. To summarise 2009 into one word, it would be
‘fruitful’.
I have been in Youth With A Mission - Marine Reach for 20 years now,
and reflecting on what has been accomplished this year I would say it
is one of the most exciting and productive years to date.
I thank you for your investment this year. The seeds that have
been planted will grow into trees of righteousness that will someday
bear fruit for the Kingdom.
“Let me wish you a very Happy Christmas - one that is filled with
joy and cheer, with all the blessings of good health and purpose for
coming year. “
