Dear Friend, The ship is undergoing its survey with Maritime NZ and we need your support in getting our
life rafts serviced. These cost $2,000 each and we have four (4) of them. Would you consider adopting a life raft
or a part thereof so we can keep the ship in survey? Thank you so much!

The ship has just returned from Great Barrier Island (near Auckland) and you may ask what in heaven’s name would they do there?
Well, it was for two reasons: one, we wanted to give our Crew and Discipleship Training Students a recreational nature trip on the island before plunging into their outreach of the Solomon Islands and Samoa. And secondly, the engines needed a good run and the ship’s hull a clean from the weed growth of sitting in port.

In some ways I guess that happens when we stand still ... we can gather moss. In these days of uncertainty and fear most people could easily be tempted to do just that. However, as a Christian and a believer I am confronted by our predicament; why send a ship out when fuel prices are soaring, why fly a team to the Solomon Islands and Samoa when it would seem more prudent to simply send money instead - it’d make a lot more difference. So what’s my point?
Human suffering was never remedied by just a lot of cash and pallets of food. One crucial factor in this humanitarian equation is the physical encounter of someone who cares enough to come and meet the need. Jesus Christ admonishes us with these words: |
|
“For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.”
(Matthew 25 : 37, 38)
The ‘you’ in these verses really caught my eye ... it actually jolted me! The response here is not just about the resources I am able to give, but the giving of myself in the process. People often don’t care what you know until they know how much you care.
We will continue to send teams, ships, resources, and people to the far reaches of the world that are in need of help. With 40 million people blind, and another 2 billion still to hear a clear message about a loving God there is every reason to ‘go’. There are no presumptions in this letter - only the fervour of hope, faith, and love.
Six thousand (6,000) people received direct medical help because of the ship’s ministry this year, with an estimated 15,000 ministered to indirectly. You were part of that! Thank you!
Enjoy reading the October edition of our Making Waves magazine and let me leave you with these words:
”Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you? And the King will tell them, ‘I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’
(Matthew 25 : 39 - 40)
