"Flat out" would best describe our activities at Mercy Link, on the sleepy island of Mindoro, Philippines.
Praise Report: For many years the staff of Mercy Link has been asking the Lord to provide us with a property for our base. We have previously reported to you that Mercy Link was hoping to buy a house and land for an office and training facility. Due to tough bank criteria on NGO's, a loan for this property was impossible.
team working on the new building
Praise God we didn't go through with this because the Lord did not want Mercy Link in debt! He had a far better plan for us! His plan included our own building and land that would allow for further base expansion as funds became available. An ideal location to spread the Gospel and assist the community has been found – by the grace of God!
The construction of our new office in Canubing 1 has been the major event for us this year. As of Saturday 1st November, we completed the inside and have moved in. We are now running our current mini-medical school there with five students (all from the USA). We will use the building for our offices when the school ends in December.
Externally we have not rendered the walls (due to insufficient funds), but the inside in finished with tiling, painting, curtains, etc. It took less than three months of intensive work to complete it and despite heavy rains and maternity delivery problems, we finished on schedule. Praise God for the skills He gave us to do what was necessary, as well as for the additional people He sent to help us. All of us are very grateful to the Lord. He has answered our prayers, provided the land and new building His own mighty way and perfect timing. Overflowing excitement is very evident in our hearts as we look forward to what the Lord has prepared or us in this place.
As a part of Mercy Link's building program, we have provided three more homes in the past two months to people in need. These homes have been paid for by donations from overseas.
The first home is for Ben, a hardworking Christian father of six. He makes a very low wage because of his seasonal employment working in the rice fields. Ben's family is very grateful to God and the sponsor for this wonderful blessing to have a home of their own, after many years of living together with his parents and in-laws. The second home has been completed and will be occupied by a local pastor and his family. They too are very excited and blessed to have their own house. The third home is for the Mangyan pastor at Paitan. He will use his place to start a literacy program as a tool to evangelise his fellow brethren.
The Mangyan Bible Study at Sungi has not been active for two months, because during harvest time they go to different areas to work or glean for months. Sungi was also flooded from the heavy rains. There was also a military encounter there with rebels. We've heard that four tribal people have died in this encounter. We have been advised not to go back there until it has been resolved. Please pray with us for the safety of the Mangyans, that they will continue to trust God, growing more in their faith in the midst of the situation. Also pray with us that we will be able to recommence our Bible study group soon.
Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat pagplain kayo ng diyos!
Many thanks and God bless you all.

For the past 4 weeks we have seen 964 patients in our free medical and dental outreaches where we are sometimes called upon to also dispense reading glasses. The outreaches were conducted in different areas of Calapan City and San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro.
We have been assisting the local government with our last 3 outreaches and have approximately 4 planned. As a non Government Christian organization we also must be very careful to not be seen by the locals as biased towards any political party. With this in mind when we were asked by a person: "Why are you supporting a government official", we became very concerned. We very quickly restarted our stance as an organization so as to avoid future misunderstandings.
Our last scheduled outreach was cancelled due to the availability of doctors.
A 7 year old boy named jesse was one of many patients who received treatment from our last outreach. He had been sick for 3 weeks and had lost a lot of weight. Praise Jesus that upon seeing him last week we were glad to see a vast improvement in his health, and his mother was this time full of joy and thanksgiving to God.
